Angel S. Chavez Memorial Scholarship
The Angel S. Chavez Memorial Scholarship was re-established in 2005 to assist students in their pursuit of higher education. The Scholarship is named after the founding grandfather of the Church of the Redeemer and is open to all who are attending a university, college, trade school, or Bible school in hope of obtaining a degree or certification to advance the kingdom of God.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must meet all the following eligibility criteria:
Applicant (or parents) must be an Active Member for at least one (1) year
Applicant must demonstrate a history of church involvement
Applicant must demonstrate financial need
Applicant must demonstrate a minimum 2.0 GPA from the current school
Applicant must attend undergraduate, graduate, professional, trade, or Bible school in the year scholarship is awarded
Applicant must volunteer at least ten (10) hours in a church ministry or event within a year of receiving scholarship
APPLICATION PROCESS
Application and supplementary documents must be submitted by July 31, 2020.
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Incomplete applications, including not participating in the personal interview, will be disqualified unless applicant has prior approval from the Scholarship Committee.
Applicants who do not meet the Eligibility Criteria will be disqualified unless the scholarship committee allows for an exception. This is on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants will be contacted to schedule the personal interview.
Selected applicants will be notified of award.
Selected applicants will be honored in both English and Spanish services at Church of the Redeemer.
PLEASE SUBMIT SUPPLEMENTARY DOCUMENTS WITH APPLICATION
1. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation – on official letterhead from 1) a teacher, professor, or educator and 2) employer, church leader, or community service leader addressing the following:
Relationship to applicant (i.e. time acquainted and in what capacity)
Applicant’s goals, aspirations, strengths, and weaknesses
Applicant’s performance in education/employment and involvement in community service and/or other activities (i.e. ministries, sports, clubs, etc.)
Applicant’s overall potential to succeed
2. Personal Statement – a written statement of no more than one (1) page addressing the following:
Why you chose your field of study
Your professional, short-term, and long-term goals
Your contributions to church, school, and community, and any plans to remain involved in the academic year
How this scholarship will assist you professionally and personally
How this scholarship will assist in advancing the kingdom of God
Why you should be selected
Any relevant information the Scholarship Committee should consider in reviewing your application
